State University of New York at Fredonia, also referred to as SUNY Fredonia or Fredonia State University, is a four-year liberal arts college located in Fredonia, which is a village in Chautauqua County, in the US state of New York, with a population of more than 10 700 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2000 census.
SUNY Fredonia was established in 1826 and first started as Fredonia Academy. It was one of the state teachers' colleges traditionally specializing in music education, but has grown over the years, today offering its students a total of 82 majors and 41 minors, in various areas of study, among the most popular areas also being Communication, Music, Education, and programs of the Social Sciences.
The athletic teams at Fredonia State University are nicknamed the Blue Devils and they compete in NCAA Division III, SUNYAC, with 17 varsity teams. Their distinctive colors are blue and white.
